This year the Craveri Civic Museum of Natural History in Bra has chosen as an initiative within the Earth Planet Week a guided tour of the Fossano fossil forest, preserved in Pliocene sediments dating back to about 4 million years ago. The aim is to enhance and promote some of the geological and landscape sites representative of the history of the Alps through the figure of Federico Sacco from Fossano (geologist, paleontologist and mycologist 1864 – 1948)
The visit will be led by geologist Marco Terenzi for the geological aspects and by Rino Brancato of the Craveri Civic Museum for the botanical aspects.
At the end of the excursion, you will visit the Federico Sacco Geological Museum, built in 2021 and set up at the headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano, in Via Roma 126.
Participation is free with your own means of transport.
Meeting point: 9:00 am in Fossano in Piazza Diaz (near the "Chioschetto dei gelati" bar on the corner of Corso Trento).
For organizational reasons, registration is required by email to craveri@comune.bra.cn.it or by telephone at 0172-412010, by 12 noon on Friday 4 October.
The route on the path is not difficult, short and suitable for everyone; however, shoes suitable for dirt paths are recommended.
