You learn by playing

In the museum itinerary, a space between the girls' and boys' games is dedicated to the School of early 1900s and the educational and scientific toy of the time. Playing with certain toys rather than with others then as today it was seen as a child-friendly way of encouraging and cultivating learning.
Digging into our memory it is easy for each of us to remember that "educational game" we received in Christmas!
Are there really toys for learning? Is a toy enough to increase intelligence? Or i Are toys just for playing? How can we define the act of playing?
